Comparison Degrees

  Comparison degrees (tingkat perbandingan) dalah suatu kata yang dipergunakan untuk perbandingan sifat suatu benda dengn sifat benda yang lain.

  Comparison degrees juga untuk menyatakan dua buah benda yang lain jika diperbandingkan sifat-sifatnya.

Comparison dapat dibagi menjadi 3 bagian : 
1. Positive degree (tingkatan biasa)
2. Comperative degree (tingkatan lebih/pembanding)
3. Superlative degree (tingkat paling/ter-)

1 Positive Degree

= dengan hati-hati/teliti
= dengan pelan
= dengan keras, dll

Adjective LY = Adverb of manner (keterangan cara)

Catatan :

As clever as = sama pandainya dengan/sepandai...Rapidly as = dengan cepat seperti...
2. Comparative Degree (tingkat lebih)

a. Adjective Er

Pada kata sifat yang terdiri dari satu sampai dua suku kata
a. Short-shorter (lebih pendek)
b. Happy-happier (lebih bahagia)
c. Big-bigger (lebih besar)

Contoh :

My father is older that my mother.Bobby is fatter than Melia.

b. More Adjective

Pada kata sifat yang terdiri lebih dari dua suku kata atau yang berakhiran dengan akhiran (suffix-full, -ous, -ive)
Diligent - more diligent
Careful - more careful

Contoh :

This book is more expensive than yours.English is more modern than Banten.

More Ly = Dengan lebih...

Contoh :

Jeany walks more quickly than her mother.

More Noun = Lebih banyak...

Contoh :

Bali has more people than Bandung.

Catatan : 
Fewer and less (lebih sedikit; lawan kata dari more).
Few-fewer = untuk benda yang dihitung.
Little-less = untuk benda yang tidak dihitung.

Banten has fewer hotels than Jakarta.Banten is less interesting than Bali.Hasna reads less clearly than Bobby.
. Superlative Degree (tingkat paling)

a. Adjective + Est

a. Short = shortest
b. Pretty = prettiest.
c. Thick = thickkest

Contoh :

My father is the tallest among of them.Melia is the cleverest student at my school.

b. Most + Adjective

Beautiful - most beautifulDangerous - most dangerous

Contoh :

Jakarta is the most modern in Indonesia.Hasna read most rapidly. (Most -Ly)Jakarta has the most hotels.

4. Irregular comparison

Tingkat perbandingan tidak beraturan. (tidak terdapat penambahan -er, -est atau more/most)
